Horror gripped the heart of the World War 1 soldier as he saw his lifelong friend fall in battle. Caught in a trench with continuous gunfire whizzing over his head, the soldier asked his lieutenant if he might go out into the "no man's land" between the trenches to bring his fallen comrade back.

"You can go," said the lieutenant, "but I don't think it will be wort h it. Your friend is probably dead and you may throw your life away." The lieutenant's advice didn't matter, and the soldier went anyway. Miraculously he managed to reach his friend, hoist him onto his shoulder and bring him back to their company's trench. As the two of them tumbled in together to the bottom of the trench, the officer checked the wounded soldier, and then looked kindly at his friend.

"I told you it wouldn't be worth it," he said. "Your friend is dead and you are mortally wounded." "It was worth it, though, sir," said the soldier. "What do you mean; worth it?" responded the Lieutenant. "Your friend is dead."

"YES, Sir" the private answered. "But it was worth it because when I got to him, he was still alive and I had the satisfaction of hearing him say, "JIM, I KNEW YOU'D COME."

Take up all your courage and do something your heart tells you to do so that you may not regret not doing it later in your life. "A true friend is one who walks in, when the rest of the world walks out."

Tips to improve Fuel Economy

Here are some very good tips on improving your vehicle's Fuel Economy / Increase Fuel Efficiency / Mileage. With increasing fuel prices it is becoming more and more prudent to use them.

Use your gears wisely.
Driving in the highest gear possible without labouring the engine is a
fuel-efficient way of driving. A vehicle travelling at 60kmph in third gear
uses 25 percent more fuel than at the same speed in fifth gear

Drive smoothly
Think ahead! By applying light throttle and avoiding heavy braking, you can
reduce both fuel consumption and wear and tear. Try to predict traffic at
junctions and when in queuing to avoid accelerating and then braking.
Research suggests driving techniques can influence car fuel efficiency by as
much as 30 percent.

Switch off your engine
There are two schools of thought on this one. Switching your engine off for
short periods of time can actually increase fuel consumption, as it requires
more fuel to get the engine started. Also your catalytic converter will no
longer be running at full temperature and so your car will be less
efficient, increasing the amount of pollution you cause. However if you are
stopped for more than a few minutes then your car will simply burn less fuel
with the engine stopped.

Drive off promptly to prevent wasting fuel
Don't leave your engine running when you first start up. Drive off straight
away if you can, but drive gently until the engine has reached its normal
operating temperature. This doesn't increase fuel efficiency as such, but it
does mean your engine is switched on for less time.

Lighten your load
Think carefully about what you need on a journey. if you do not need
something, do not pack it. Remove roof racks if not needed. The lighter the
load, the lower the fuel consumption, and emissions, and the higher the fuel
efficiency.

Tyres effect fuel efficiency
It is estimated that about 50% of tyres on the road are under inflated.
Aside from increasing the rate of wear, this wastes fuel and decreased your
fuel efficiency. Check your tyre pressures every fortnight. Worn tyres will
also decrease fuel efficiency (and your safety!), so check the tread
regularly. If you are replacing tyres then consider some of the newer 'Eco'
tyres that are designed specifically to increase fuel efficiency.

Car Windows
Driving with your windows open drastically reduces your fuel efficiency, far
more so than putting the air conditioning on when motorway driving. So in
those hot summers(?) preferably keep the windows shut, and the air
conditioning on if you want to keep cool. Of course the air conditioning
decreases fuel efficiency too, so try not to over use it.

Invest in a new fuel efficient car
New cars come in all shapes and sizes, but it is possible to pick a new car
that can greatly reduce your fuel bill, and your fuel emissions.

Size matters. Choose an economical car - small cars use far more fuel
efficient and produce lower emissions than large cars.

Drive the most fuel-efficient car that meets your needs. Compare models and
classes. Even similarly sized cars can vary in fuel efficiency by up to 45%.

Consider diesel engines (with a particulate trap), and LPG (Liquefied
Petroleum Gas) and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) fuelled cars - all have
lower CO2 emissions than standard petrol cars.

Consider 'hybrid' vehicles - they combine a conventional engine with an
electric motor and battery. These offer reduced fuel consumption and CO2
with potentially lower emissions of all pollutants.

Diesel Engines
If your going to buy a diesel, ensure it is a new 'common rail' type, as
these are approximately 10% more efficient than older diesels. also replace
(or clean if applicable) air cleaner elements as often as is required by
your vehicles servicing schedule.

Air Filter
One of the most common reasons for a drop in fuel efficiency is a dirty
intake filter. This will decrease the amount of air entering the cylinders
of the engine resulting in incomplete combustion. Check the filter regularly
to ensure that it is clean.

Spark Plugs
Ensure your spark plugs are in good condition. Renew the plugs and wires at
intervals specified by the owners manual. This will keep all cylinders
firing properly resulting in higher efficiency.

Lube Oil:
Change the lube oil at intervals specified by the owners manual. Use the
recommended oil only especially in newer cars. Use of an engine flush before
changing the oil will help to get rid of a lot of the dirt that collects in
the engine that a normal oil change will not remove. On older engines it is
advisable to use an oil treatment agent. This basically thickens the oil
which creates a better seal between the piston and the liner, preventing
blow past and consequent loss of combustion pressure, resulting in higher
fuel efficiency.

Exhausts alter fuel efficiency
Most cars have special sizes for the exhaust. When cars are reasonably old
the silences has to be changed. The garage people always try to fit a size
that they have in the garage it self. Which might not be the exact size
recommended for the car. The wrong size a bigger or smaller silencer size
effects on the MPG of the car and the HP of the car. It may be cheaper to
put another size than your recommended size for your car but on the long run
it will cost you in many ways, especially on fuel consumption. Always put
the recommended size of the exhaust that is indicated in your car manual
because the car company knows how to optimize the performance of your car.

A cracked Pot

A water bearer in China had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water.At the end of the long walk from the stream to the House, the cracked pot arrived only half full. For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments,Perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection. And miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.

After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you. I have been able to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw. So I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house?

Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.

Wall Street becoming Linux stronghold

NEW YORK -- Wall Street firms increasingly are buying into Linux, but some still need convincing that open source licensing and support models won't make using the technology more trouble than it's worth.

Linux providers, speaking this week at the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) conference in New York City, stated their cases that Wall Street firms have nothing to fear about diving into open source. Red Hat and Novell argued that's especially true now that specialized Real Time Linux has been developed that meets strict low-latency and messaging requirements of brokerages and trading firms.

Nail in the fence

There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down.

He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn't lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, "You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.

You can put a knife in a man and draw it out.It won't matter how many times you say "I'm sorry", the wound is still there. A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one.

On world environment day, lets take some time to think about what we can do to save our environment. Ofcourse it is Almighty who saves everything. But he has blessed us with this wonderful planet, called Earth, and wants us to take care of our environment.

Let's find out what we can do to make this world a better place to live for the future generations:

Say no to plastics: Or use fewer plastic bags, utensils, containers etc.
Save Electricity: Turn off lights, computers and other appliances when not in use.
Shutdown your PC before you leave office everyday (Hibernate is a better option)
Recycle Paper: Copy and print on both sides of paper; Avoid ATM receipts unless actually reqd.
Avoid burning Read-Only CDs or DVDs. Use rewritable ones or use USB drives
Purchase radial tyres and keep them properly inflated for your vehicle.
Join a carpool or vanpool to get to work.
Walk or ride your bicycle instead of driving, whenever possible.
Buy rechargeable batteries for devices used frequently.
Shop with a canvas bag instead of using paper and plastic bags.
Use reusable plates and utensils instead of disposable ones.
Dispose plastic waste (even a chocolate wrapper) appropriately.

"This is what I want you to do," said the devil:

"Distract them from gaining hold of their Allah and maintaining that vital connection throughout their day!"

"How shall we do this?" his demons shouted.

"Keep them busy in the non-essentials of life and invent innumerable schemes to occupy their minds," he answered.
"Tempt them to spend, spend, spend, and borrow, borrow, borrow."
"Persuade the wives to go to work for long hours and the
husbands to work 6-7 days each week, 10-12 hours a day, so they can afford their empty lifestyles."
"Keep them from spending time with their children."
"As their families fragment, soon, their homes will offer no escape from the pressures of work!"
"Over-stimulate their minds so that they cannot hear that still, small voice."
"Entice them to play the radio or cassette player

"And when they meet for spiritual fellowship, involve them in gossip and small talk so that they leave with troubled consciences."
"Crowd their lives with so many good causes they have no time to seek power from Allah."

"Soon they will be working in their own strength, sacrificing their health and family for the good of the cause."

"It will work!" "It will work!"

It was quite a plan!

The demons went eagerly to their assignments causing Muslims everywhere to get busier and more rushed, going here and there.

Having little time for their Allah or their families.
Having no time to tell others about the power of Allah and his messenger Muhammad to change lives.

I guess the question is, has the devil been successful in his schemes?

Finally, she came up with his own Pentium machine and asked if it was his.
The engineer, left with no option, sighed and said "Yes."

The River Goddess was happy with his honesty. She was about to give him all three items, but before she could make the offer, the engineer asked her, "Don't you know that you're supposed to show me some better computers before bringing up my own ?"

The River Goddess, angered at this, replied, "I know that, you stupid donkey! The first two things I showed you were the Trillennium and the Billennium, the latest computers from IBM !". So saying, she disappeared with the Pentium!!

A young man was getting ready to graduate college. For
many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer's
showroom, and knowing his father could well afford it, he told
him that was all he wanted.

As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited
signs that his father had purchased the car. Finally, on the
morning of his graduation his father called him into his private
study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine
son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son
a beautiful wrapped gift box.

Curious, but somewhat disappointed the young man
opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound HolyBook. Angrily,
he raised his voice at his father and said, "With all your money you
give me a HolyBook?" and stormed out of the house, leaving the holy
book.

Many years passed and the young man was very successful in
business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his
father was very old, and thought perhaps he should go to him. He
had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make
arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had
passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He
needed to come home immediately and take care things.
When he arrived at his father's house, sudden sadness and
regret filled his heart.

He began to search his father's important papers and
saw the still new HolyBook, just as he had left it years ago. With
tears, he opened the HolyBook and began to turn the pages. As he
read those words, a car key dropped from an envelope
taped behind the HolyBook.
It had a tag with the dealer's name, the same dealer who had the
sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation,
and the words...PAID IN FULL.

Welcome to the promise of the Internet at 33,000 feet (10,000 meters) and the questions of etiquette, openness and free speech that airlines and service providers will have to grapple with as they bring Internet access to the skies in the coming months.

“This gets into a ticklish area,” said Vint Cerf, one of the Internet’s chief inventors and generally a critic of network restrictions. “Airlines have to be sensitive to the fact that customers are (seated) close together and may be able to see each other’s PC screens. More to the point, young people are often aboard the plane.”

Technology providers and airlines are already making decisions. Some will block services like Internet phone calls altogether while others will put limits and install filters on content. And traffic management tools that are frowned upon on terra firma could be commonplace in the air.

Panasonic Avionics Corp., a Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. unit testing airborne services on Australia’s Qantas Airways Ltd., is designing its high-speed Internet services to block sites on “an objectionable list,” including porn and violence, said David Bruner, executive director for corporate sales and marketing.

He said airlines based in more restrictive countries could choose to expand the list. The company also is recommending that airlines permit Internet-based phone calls only on handsets with wireless Wi-Fi capabilities, the technology delivering access within the passenger cabin. Bruner said the company believes Wi-Fi handsets use less bandwidth than telephone software that runs on laptops.

Airlines, he said, also could block incoming calls and the annoying ring tones they produce or designate periods of quiet time.

The Economic TimesInternational call rates to the US and UK will soon nosedive to Rs 1.25 per minute as public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) is planning to introduce VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) for long distance traffic. The telco will offer VoIP through broadband (high speed internet) connections.

BSNL will invite expression of interest (EoI) from Internet service providers (ISPs) as well as international operators in the next two-three months, sources told ET.

VoIP technology converts voice into digital information and sends it over the Internet in small packets, which makes it a lot less expensive than a standard system where voice travels through cellular networks.

“BSNL will invite EoIs for tying-up with ISPs who have media gateways (which convert voice traffic to voice over IP). The company will also forge alliances with international operators who can deliver traffic overseas,” said sources. With margins in ILD calls being squeezed by the day, BSNL wants to make use of VoIP, which is less costly. While an international call to the US can cost as low as Rs 1.25 per minute using IP telephony, BSNL currently charges Rs 6 per minute for the same.

“The aim of riding on VoIP is multifold. BSNL wants to match the low ILD call rates being offered by ISPs and end its dependence on Indian ILD operators, which presently carry its international traffic. The move will also push the offtake of BSNL’s fixedline and broadband services,” said sources.

With new "rainbow technology", devised by Sainul Abideen who has just completed an MCA degree in Kerala, data can be encoded into coloured geometric shapes and stored in dense patterns on paper.

Files such as text, images, sounds and video clips are encoded in "rainbow format" as coloured circles, triangles, squares and so on, and printed as dense graphics on paper at a density of 2.7GB per square inch. The paper can then be read through a specially developed scanner and the contents decoded into their original digital format and viewed or played. The encoding and decoding processes have not been revealed.

TRAI STEPS IN TO CURB TELEMARKETING CALLS

The Hindu Business LineConsidering the growing dissatisfaction among consumers over unsolicited telemarketing calls, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has initiated a consultation process with the aim of reducing the bulk of unsolicited commercial communications (UCC).

UCC includes telemarketing calls, SMS or other commercial or marketing messages.

The TRAI proposes to set up a national do-not-call register that allows subscribers to specify that they do not want telemarketers to call them. If a telemarketer makes a call to a person listed on the do-not-call register, they will face a significant fine.

India Inc’s IT spending scores are out. And the Windows vs. Linux scoreboard throws some surprising findings—our CIOs and CTOs’ spending patterns chart a different path from US enterprises. Hardware is the largest component of the total cost of ownership (TCO) of IT in Indian companies. In sharp contrast, North American firms’ TCO break-up shows staffing as a significant cost.

Interestingly, our TCO break-ups are closer to China. In India, operational expenses form about 47 percent of the TCO, with soft costs (costs associated with planning, configuration and project management of server environment) significantly higher than software costs. Maintenance and downtime costs are higher than software costs in the overall TCO of Indian enterprises.

Insiders attribute the marked divergence to relatively inexpensive talent pool in India and lower hardware costs in China.

“In US, IT penetration and labour costs are higher, resulting in high downtime and operation and maintenance component and with maintenance forming a relatively higher chunk of the total TCO, hardware and software cost is seemingly lower in the US market,” explains Microsoft India competitive strategy director, Radhesh Balakrishnan.

Explaining the similarities seen in Indian and Chinese IT spend, he adds, “India and China are very similar as operations and maintenance labour dynamics are very similar, though hardware is slightly cheaper in China.”

With 4,000 students and just 21 computers, the Cotton Hill Girls High School in Trivandrum wouldn’t appear to be at the vanguard of anything related to information technology. Yet the 71-year-old school is abandoning Microsoft Windows software in favour of its free, open-source rival, Linux. So when students -- typically eight to a machine, seated at two benches -- turn on their PCs they see Linux desktop software that helps them navigate their way to all manner of math, graphics, and writing programs.

The school is one of 2,600 in Kerala making the shift. That means each of the state’s 1.5 million high school students will grow accustomed to working not in the Windows environment familiar to computer users worldwide, but in Linux. And over the next two years, computer science based on Linux software will be made mandatory in all of the state’s high schools.

“As a government that keeps the interest of society over corporations, we are committed to the use and development of free software,” says V S Achutanandan, Kerala’s sarong-clad chief minister.

The announcement by Dallas-based semiconductor leader, Texas Instruments (TI), in Delhi last week, that it had decided to open its second Indian research and development centre in Chennai, merely confirms what analysts have been anticipating for some months now: The emergence of the Tamil Nadu capital as the next big international manufacturing hub — with a strong slant on the consumer communications industry.

Speaking soon after holding formal discussions with the Union Communications and Information Technology Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, TI's Senior Vice-President for the world wide wireless terminals business, Gilles Delfassy, explained that the Chennai centre, the second after the company's two-decade-old operation in Bangalore, would be immediately staffed with 25 engineers — and quickly ramped up to keep pace with Indian government's stated road map leading to 500 million mobile phone subscribers by 2010. The choice of Chennai is seen to be a canny move: it will place TI very close to potential customers for its products — most importantly, the suite of processor chips under its `Locosto' initiative to create a one-chip solution for mobile handsets — particularly the entry level Global Services Mobile (GSM) type which is seen to have a huge potential in the emerging rural markets of India.

The Sriperumbudur area on the outskirts of Chennai is already home to Finnish handset maker Nokia, which began manufacturing operations there in January this year and quickly achieved a milestone. The world's largest contract manufacturing player, the Singapore-based Flextronics, has also put down roots in Chennai— after its plants in Bangalore and Pondicherry — and hopes to launch its cell phone and mobile base station lines in the last quarter of this year. HI-B VISAS CAP REACHED

The US Government has reached the cap on the much in demand HI-B visas for 2007 even though the fiscal year does not start until October 1, the Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced.

The USCIS began accepting applications for the H1B petitions for Fiscal 2007 on April 1 and the cap was reached on May 26 and hence high tech firms will have to wait until April 1, 2007 for applications for Fiscal 2008 that begins on October 1, 2007. The HI-B visas, given to skilled professionals, are in demand among many Indian hi-tech workers.

The Congressionally mandated cap currently is 65,000 and the Senate recently passed its version of an Immigration Bill that increases the H1B cap to 115,000 every year with a built in increase of 20 percent annually.

The Senate version is going to a Conference Committee, as it has to be reconciled with a House Bill passed late last year. There is nothing in the House version on the H1Bs and hence the uncertainty.

GOVT KEEN TO GET COIMBATORE IT PARK PROJECT GOING

The Government is interested in getting the IT park off the ground, the District Collector, Neeraj Mittal, said here today.

Mittal, on his second day of assuming office visited the proposed site at the Coimbatore Medical College Campus to understand the problem for the delay in its take off. "The access route to the site, among others appears to be the major issue. We are also studying the possibility for improving the capacity of the Avinashi Road to ease the traffic on this main arterial road," he told reporters.

The district administration has asked the Highways Department and Coimbatore Corporation to look into the issue. A meeting with the officials of the highways department and the railways is expected to be convened during the coming week to expedite this problem.

It may be recalled that the district health department had in September 2004, transferred about 27 acres of land in the Medical College Campus to Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT), the nodal agency for promoting the park.

One of the basic forms of personal identification, the passport, is on the verge of taking on a new, high-tech identity. A number of countries are about to launch trials of passports and visas that incorporate basic biometric information about the document holder alongside the traditional photo and passport number - data such as a digital image of the citizen's face that will be compared to a facial scan taken at the airport.

The first country to take the plunge will be Belgium, which plans to conduct an e-passport trial later this year, with possible real-world implementation by next year. The UK Passport Office recently announced that it is looking for volunteers to help test the recording and verification of facial recognition, iris and fingerprint biometrics.

And New Zealand and Canada are also actively looking into conducting trials. Australia and the US, meanwhile, have issued requests for proposals for trials of their own, and the Netherlands is looking at ways for banks to adopt chip-based documents that would be used to confirm identification.

In India too, e-passports, which could be the size of an ATM card, would replace present day passports by 2013, minister of state for external affairs E Ahmed said recently. "We have already begun work for this and we expect that by 2013 every passport holder would have an e-passport. This is part of an international agreement. With this, the entire problem of fake passports would be solved," the minister said. He added that a decision was yet to be made on whether to issue e-passports in phases or at one go.

TN SOFTWARE EXPORTS CLOCK 32 PERCENT GROWTH

Software exports from Tamil Nadu increased to Rs 14,115 crore during 2005-06, a 32 percent increase over the Rs 10,730-crore in the previous year, according to the Software Technology Parks of India (Chennai).

About 19,000 employees entered the software industry in the State during 2005-06 to take the total in the industry to 1,18,710.

The top 10 software exporting units from the State were Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCL Technologies, Cognizant, Wipro, Satyam Computer, Scope International, Sutherland Global, Siemens Information and Teledata (STP division), STPI Chennai said.

In Tamil Nadu, 161 STPI units were approved during 2005-06 compared to 103 in 2004-05. Some of the major new units last fiscal were Customer Operational Services, Spheris India and Hewlett Packard Globalsoft, STPI Chennai said.

The total operating software units reporting to STPI Chennai increased to 936 (754).

Revenue from application software and system software was Rs 9,514 crore (Rs 7,820 crore), IT-enabled services Rs 1,617 crore (Rs 1,636 crore), communication software, VLSI design and Web solution Rs 1,094 crore (Rs 932 crore), product package Rs 474 crore (Rs 341 crore) and consultancy Rs 831 crore (comparative number was not available), it said.

1. Before standing up for Prayer, try to deal with all the minor urgent matters which demand your attention. If you are pressed by hunger, eat first; if you are pressed to attend to the call of nature, relieve yourself; if you are the parent of an infant, feed him or her, or keep him or her busy.

2. Perform your wudu' (ablution) well, paying due care and attention.

3. Approach the Prayer with zest and passion as if it is the most important task in your life. Actually the Prophet (peace and blessings beupon him) taught us that we could do nothing in this world that could ever surpass Prayer in merit and excellence.

4. Visualize that in your Prayer you are going to have a special audience with Allah, Lord of the worlds, and that you are enjoying a direct communion with Him? This in fact is true.

5. Think of the Prayer you are performing as if it were the last Prayer of your life. In fact, it could very well be the last one, since no one is given a guarantee that he would live to perform another Prayer.
6. Picture the scene of the Last Day when people will be lined up into two groups, one destined for Heaven, and another for Hell, and ask yourself where you would be placed.

7. Focus your mind on what you are reading in your Prayer.

8. If, in spite of your best efforts, your mind is still wandering, seek refuge in Allah and bring your mind back to Prayer.

9. Pray to Allah and beg Him to grant you true the joy of concentrating in your Prayer and protection against the wanderings of your mind.

After 21 years of marriage, my wife wanted me to take another woman out
to dinner and a movie. She said, "I love you, but I know this other woman
loves you and would love to spend some time with you."

The other woman that my wife wanted me to visit was my MOTHER, who has
been a widow for 19 years, but the demands of my work and my three children
had made it possible to visit her only occasionally.

That night I called to invite her to go out for dinner and a movie.
"What's wrong, are you well?" she asked. My mother is the type of woman who
suspects that a late night call or a surprise invitation is a sign of
bad news. "I thought that it would be pleasant to spend some time with you,
"
Iresponded. "Just the two of us?" She thought about it for a moment, and
then said, "I would like that very much."

That Friday after work, as I drove ove r to pick her up I was a bit
nervous. When I arrived at her house, I noticed that she, too, seemed to
be nervous about our date. She waited in the door with her coat on. She had
curled her hair and was wearing the dress that she had worn to celebrate
her last wedding anniversary. She smiled from a face that was as radiant
as an angel's. "I told my friends that I was going to go out with my son,
and they were impressed," she said, as she got into the car. "They can't
wait to hear about our meeting."

We went to a restaurant that, although not elegant, was very nice and
cozy.

My mother took my arm as if she were the First Lady. After we sat down,
I had to read the menu. Her eyes could only read large print. Half way
through the entries, I lifted my eyes and saw Mom sitting ther e staring
at me. A nostalgic smile was on her lips. "It was I who used to have to
read the menu when you were small," she said. "Then it's time that you relax
and let me return the favor," I responded.

During the dinner, we had an agreeable conversation - nothing
extraordinary but catching up on recent events of each other's life. We talked so much
that we missed the movie. As we arrived at her house later, she said, "I'll
go out with you again, but only if you let me invite you." I agreed.

"How was your dinner date?" asked my wife when I got home. "Very nice,
much more so than I could have imagined," I answered.

A few days later, my mother died of a massive heart attack. It happened
so suddenly that I didn't have a chance to do anything for her. Some time
later, I received an envelope with a copy of a restaurant receipt from
the same place mother and I had dined. An attached note said: "I paid this
bill in advance. I wa sn't sure that I could be there; but nevertheless, I
paid for two plates - one for you and the other for your wife. You will never
know what that night meant for me. I love you, son."

At that moment, I understood the importance of saying in time: "I LOVE
YOU" and to give our loved ones the time that they deserve.

Nothing in life is more important than your family. Give them the time
they deserve, because these things cannot be put off till "some other time."

In our busy life, we always tend to neglect some of the most important
things in life where we would never realize till we lose them.Take out
some moments for your loved ones..... You never know when will be the last
time you see them. God knows.....

Lion - Onsite Visit Experience....!!!!

In a poor zoo of India, a lion was frustrated as he was offered not more than 1 kg meat a day.

The lion thought its prayers were answered when one US Zoo Manager visited the zoo and requested the zoo management to shift the lion to the US Zoo.

The lion was so happy and started thinking of a central A/c environment, a goat or two every day and a US Green Card also.

On its first day after arrival, the lion was offered a big bag, sealed very nicely for breakfast.

The lion opened it quickly but was shocked to see that it contained few bananas.

Then the lion thought that may be they cared too much for him as they were worried about his stomach as he had recently shifted from India.

The next day the same thing happened. On the third day again the same food bag of bananas was delivered.

The lion was so furious, it stopped the delivery boy and blasted at him, 'Don't you know I am the lion...king of the Jungle..., what's wrong with your

management?, what nonsense is this?, why are you delivering bananas to me?'

The delivery boy politely said, 'Sir, I know you are the king of the jungle but .. did you know that you have been brought here on a monkey's visa!!!

Chennai has elbowed out all the traditional markets including NCR (Gurgaon, Faridabad, Noida), Bangalore and Mumbai as the most attractive destinations for offshoring services.

The other city emerging as a credible alternative is Kolkata, according to global management consultancy firm A T Kearney’s Indian City Services Attractiveness Index 2005.

Kolkata is emerging as a credible alternative to cities with more established offshoring services industries.

The cities have been benchmarked as attractive based on three major categories of finan cial costs (compensation costs, infrastructure costs and cost of living); people skills and availability (availability, educational skills & attrition rates); and the business environment (city infrastructure, quality of life and government support).

Chennai emerged as a clear leader across all categories followed by Hyderabad, NCR and Bangalore.

Announcing the A T Kearney’s Indian City Services Attractiveness Index 2005, Marcy Beitle, Partner and Vice President, Organisation and Transformation Practice, A T Kearney, New York, said, “India has rightly focused on the development of IT and IT infrastructure during the past decade.” He added, “Today, India offers the most mature supply base for offshore work across services and verticals, making it an attractive destination globally.” Nine Indian cities—Chennai, Hyderabad, NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune, Kochi and Jaipur were assessed for their attractiveness for placing offshoring services.

While NCR, Bangalore and Mumbai remain attractive, they are challenged by cost pressures and high attrition, for which Chennai scores over these traditional destinations.

R&D: Companies flock to Chennai to tap engineering talent.

It is not just the charm of Dayanidhi Maran, which is drawing international companies to Chennai. There is a goldmine of engineering graduates that the state churns out every year — 80,000 at last count —, which is beckoning the gold hunters.

Major international telecom companies like Nokia, Ericsson, and Alcatel have already set up research and development centres here. The latest to join the bandwagon is networking giant Cisco’s Scientific-Atlanta, which will set up a research and development facility at Tidel Park in Chennai.

Chennai’s ascent on the R&D scale started with the French telecom player Alcatel which partnered with Centre for Development of Telematics to set up its global research and development centre here for broadband wireless products in March 2005. This joint initiative is estimated to employ 1,000 engineers to work on Wimax based technology.

Following closely behind was the Finnish mobile handset maker, Nokia, which announced its manufacturing base near Chennai at Sriperumbudur for an investment of $150 million.

Last month, Swedish telecom equipment maker, Ericsson inaugurated its first research and development centre in India at Chennai. The 100-person facility will focus on developing applications for the pre-paid and multimedia segments.

Work on the global prepaid segment would also be partially transferred to the Chennai centre from Sweden, says, Mats Granryd, managing director, Ericsson India.

"A lot of information technology companies are showing interest in Coimbatore. If someone creates the infrastructure, the space will be easily occupied," says Jayakumar Ramdass, Chairman of Confederation Indian Industry, Coimbatore zone, about the demand for space in Coimbatore from IT companies.

With nearly 250 IT and IT-enabled service companies already operating in the district, bigger IT companies have started looking at Coimbatore as a potential centre.

However, what is needed is infrastructure (such as fully-furnished buildings), he says.

A couple of big companies have confirmed their plans for Coimbatore. And, with the enquiries received by the CII from IT companies, "we foresee a requirement of 10 lakh to 12 lakh sq.ft right now," he said.

The average minimum space requirement for a business process outsourcing firm is 50,000 to one lakh sq.ft and for a software development company it is 30,000 to 50,000 sq.ft.

bed was nicely made and everything was neat and tidy. Then he saw an
envelope propped up prominently on the centre of the pillow. It was
addressed "Dad". With the worst premonition, he opened the envelope and
read the letter with trembling hands: -

Dear Dad,

It is with great regret and sorrow that I'm writing you, but I'm leaving
home. I had to elope with my new boyfriend Randy because I wanted to
avoid a scene with Mom and you. I've been finding real passion with
Randy and he is so nice to me. I know when you meet him you'll like him
too - even with all his piercing, tattoos, and motorcycle clothes. But
it's not only the passion Dad, I'm pregnant and Randy said that he wants
me to have the kid and that we can be very happy together. Even though
Randy is much older than me (anyway, 42 isn't so old these days is
it?), and has no money, really these things shouldn't stand in the way
of our relationship, don't you agree? Randy has a great CD collection;
he already owns a trailer in the woods and has a stack of firewood for
the whole winter. It's true he has other girlfriends as well but I know
he'll be faithful to me in his own way. He wants to have many more
children with me and that's now one of my dreams too. Randy taught me
that marijuana doesn't really hurt anyone and he'll be growing it for us
and we'll trade it with our friends for all the cocaine and ecstasy we
want. In the meantime, we'll pray that science will find a cure for AIDS so
Randy can get better; he sure
deserves it!!

Don't worry Dad, I'm 15 years old now and I know how to take care of
myself. Someday I'm sure we'll be back to visit so you can get to know

The moment we are living now is very precious and people around us also are
precious. We know it only after missing the moments and the people..

The story below is nice one to read and think..

The obituary page had my name and photo in it. It wasn't too good snap of
me, I thought, as I looked at it absent-mindedly. And then I gave a cry of
terror, "What's my photo doing in the death column?" I remembered, sharp
chest pain last night. I looked around, it was morning; but my coffee had
not been made. People were entering the house and walking through the
bedroom door. I walked in and looked on the bed. There I was, all laid out;
dead.

People stared at me, not many were crying, and some, I noticed, looked
relieved. "Listen," I shouted, "I'm here, I'm okay, I'm not dead."
Nobody
heard me. They were all looking at the me on the bed. I walked back into
the sitting room. The coffin had arrived. It was being set up in the
center. I watched them carry my body and put it in.

"I'm not ready to go as yet," I shouted, "I still have work to do. Don't
bury me, before I'm ready!"

I looked around. "Where's my family?," I asked myself. They were in the
next room, weeping. "I'm not dead," I shouted to my wife and children.
They continued to weep. "How can I go before telling you I love you?,"

I asked my wife. "How can I go, before hugging you both?,"
I asked my children. I wept with them.

People were praying in the next room. There were tears in the eyes of one of the men as he prayed.

"But we haven't talked to each other for years, "
I said to him. "Why are you crying? Come on, shake my hand and let's make up."
The man continued crying as he sang. He did not see my extended hand.

The priest came in. He sat next to the man who was crying and leaned to talk to him.
I went close to hear what he was asking.
"Is there anything good," he asked, " the dead man did in his life time?"

The man who was crying shook his head sadly.
There was a hush as my wife walked into the room.

"She looks beautiful," I thought. "You look beautiful!," I shouted.
She did not hear my words.
She had never heard them before, because I had never said them.

"God!," I screamed in agony, "A little more time to do all the things I
should have done!" I watched as they lifted my coffin and carried it to the
hearse outside. The priest refrained from saying any word about me.
They all understood, there was nothing good words to say.

I turned to say sorry to the man who had the tears. I turned to hug my
children. I leaned over to whisper words of love into my wife's ears, and
then I looked up and cried, "God, one more chance!"

"You shouted in your sleep," said my wife as she gently woke me up. "Did
you have a nightmare?" She looked startled, as I hugged her tight and
whispered,

"You're beautiful...!"

According to a study released last winter by the Society for Human Resource Management, an astounding 80 percent of HR professionals say they conduct criminal background checks to screen potential employees. That's up 26 percent from 1996, an increase driven in part by increased concern over workplace violence after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

Who can blame employers for wanting to be careful? Two Wal-Mart employees were recently convicted of fondling children in their store -- and both were registered sex offenders. Wal-Mart has announced it will now subject all new employees to a criminal background check -- a costly move for a company that Hoover's Online estimates has 1.5 million employees.

India is set to attract more semi-conductor and electronic manufacturing facilities, with a few more companies evincing interest to set up base in the country. These include IEMC, which intends to establish a $3-billion facility for semi-conductors, and Foxon, planning to set up a facility near Chennai for printed circuit boards (PCB) and printed circuit board assembly (PCBA).

"IEMC from the US is scouting for a suitable location in the country and is talking to several states, including Tamil Nadu. As in the case of Sem India, IEMC intends to invest $ 3 billion in its facility," Union minister for IT & communications Dayanithi Maran told the Press here on Saturday.

In fact, Nokia's first manufacturing unit in the country, which is coming up at Sriperumbudur, is all set to commence its operations on March 11. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh along with his counterpart from Finland will inaugurate the unit, Maran said.

Earlier, Maran inaugurated Ericsson's R&D facility set up near Chennai.

I am not sure if I know all the reasons why this happened but some factors that probably lead to this may be the intangible nature of the product, its ability to get replaced easily, lack of knowledge & awareness of capabilities of software, the hype associated with software, and many more such factors.

With the spread of awareness about the power of IT & software; two fundamental shifts have emerged (a) The expectations of what a software application & other IT systems should deliver have grown multifold; sometime just a shade lesser than magic (b) This in turn has lead to lower than ever before clarity of the initial requirements specifications of the products to be built. This is as good as going to an aircraft manufacturing company and telling them - "Start building the jet guys, I will email the specifications to you in a few weeks."

HCL INFOSYS, NOKIA CARVE UP TERRITORIES

HCL Infosystems and Nokia India today announced an extension of their “long-term distribution strategy”, under which Nokia would venture into direct distribution and sales of its mobile handsets in India.

HCL Infosystems will continue to remain the sole distributor and marketing partner of the Finnish company in India until 2011, but its operations will be restricted to a geographical half of the country.

Nokia India will directly distribute and sell its handsets in the other 50 percent of the country. The 50 percent geographical separation will not extend to service centres and HCL will continue to remain the sole service agent for Nokia handsets throughout the country.

It must also be noted that over 70 percent of the HCL Infosystems’ revenue are currently accounted for through its deal with Nokia. HCL executives maintained that the 50 percent decline in its market share over the next 24 months would be offset by volumes.

“There is no revenue drop. According to the agreement, both our revenue and margins are protected,” Ajay Chowdhury, chairman and chief executive officer, HCL Infosystems, told reporters here

"We are currently identifying the most accurate and legal map data for various cities. On procuring this data, we plan to launch this solution by middle of this year," J Keshu Kumar, assistant general manager, Infotech Enterprises Ltd, said.

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay,
for his hungry stomach, decided he would ask for a meal at the next

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the
name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.
Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her
room.Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her.He recognized
her at once.
He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to

Oracle's Think.com was implemented at two Kendriya Vidyalayas in Bangalore, at Malleswaram and on the Indian Institute of IISc campus in April 2005. Now using it teachers are posting possible questions for the board examinations. It is helping students understand difficult subjects through interactive sessions, updated notes and animations.

Students, teachers and schools can make use of Think.com by registering through a simple process. Students can use the facility to create their own websites where they can post articles of their interest, audio and video clips, pictures and even poems. After visiting a fellow students website, a student leaves his or her remarks on the contents. These appear in the form of attractive "yellow stickers" at the bottom of the web page anyone can see.

Step I:
After every 20 minutes of looking into the computer screen, turn your head and try to look at any object placed at least 20 feet away. This changes the focal length of your eyes, a must-do for the tired eyes.

Try and blink your eyes for 20 times in succession, to moisten them.
Step III:
Time permitting of course, one should walk 20 paces after every 20 minutes of sitting in one particular posture. Helps blood circulation for the entire body. The forthcoming Union Budget, to be presented in Parliament at the end of the month, is likely to propose an “anywhere, anytime” tax filing facility via the Internet.

The facility will be the result of the setting up of a single national database of tax payers linked through a network that will encompass all the 742 income tax offices in 510 cities, official sources said here on Sunday. The database is being prepared as part of a number of measures being undertaken by the Income Tax Department to make the interface between the department and people more convenient, thereby improving tax administration, the sources said.

Finally he decided to write God a letter requesting the Rs.50.

When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to God, INDIA, they decided to forward it to

In a move that may benefit Indians applying for business visas to visit America, the US State Department and department of homeland security have announced a number of steps to expedite the processing time for visas.

The State Department has established a business visa centre to lessen the waiting time for visa appointments for visitors and all American embassies and consulates have established procedures to expedite the processing of business visas.

Changes regarding the duration, for which foreign students are issued student visas, were also announced.

Under the new scheme, student visas will be issued up to 120 days in advance and visa holders will be allowed entry 45 days in advance of studies. Earlier, student visas were issued only 90 days in advance.

The two federal departments have also announced they will align travel document application processes by creating what is known as a ‘global enrollment network’ so that the data first captured of an applicant can be viewed by both the homeland security and state department officials.

Asha : Hey keep quiet ok! Me already in anger....... You don't try to tease

Priya : hahaha, you angry... see yourself in the mirror...... your drooling
is quite apparent... Tell me whoz that guy who made you talk about love
all of the sudden

Asha : our next cubicle northie yaar, Vikram I mean...... He is following
me wherever I go

Priya (surprised) : What you mean Vikram? Hey come so many girls in our
office are drooling about him........ don't just blush ok? You shouldn't
lie too much esp when you are seeing urself in the mirror

Asha : hey come on yaar, you know, that day in FoodCourt, I went to wash my
hands. All other taps were free only. But this guy purposely waited and
came to the tap where I washed my hands after I went...

Priya : hmmph.. Big deal....... This is more feebler than BSNL signal...
(shakes her head) I cant accept this as a Love signal

Asha : wait wait. Even I didn't think it as a big issue. But yesterday
no, after finished with my dinner, I missed my mobile in the desk while
leaving. When I came back to pick it up, I noticed this Vikram picking
up my paper towel and put in his pocket. What would you say for this?

Priya : Really??? Do u mean it

Asha : hey true yaar...... thatz why I said...... these guys are all crazy......
they tend to do all sorts of stupid things for love and romance

court today.. I'll show you live action today

That afternoon........Priya and Asha dine together in the Food court.
Vikram who enters the Food court at the same time, takes the seat just
behind them.

Both finish their lunch and go to wash their hand. As they return they
see Vikram standing near the place where they had their lunch

Vikram looks here and there, after getting convinced no one is around,
picks up the tumbler that was used by Asha during her lunch.

Asha : (triumphant smile) What do yaa say now?

Priya : Yep yep, Guys must be crazy only...... I will go and catch that

Priya : hello this is not a murali film story to keep postponing love

Priya straightly goes to Vikram, who is quiet surprised to see her..

Priya : Watz the tumbler u are holding in ur hand

Vikram : oh this one ah? This is your friend Asha's work. Arrey, she is
so careless yaar... Whenever she goes to wash her hands in the wash
basin, she leaves the tap open and let water go waste. She never
disposes of the paper towel, once she is done with lunch and leaves it
there itself. See even now, she doesn't even care to keep the tumbler
back in the place. How many times you expect me to keep reminding in
mails as part of the HALE cleanliness initiative of the week. Nobody
cares.. see, for being a volunteer what sort of job I have to do.
Regardless of the number of posts in the bulletin about etiquette
nobody cares to listen..."

Saying this, a disgusted vikram goes to pick up the tumbler in the next
desk. An apparently shocked Asha could not mutter any other words
except mumbling "GUYS MUST BE REALLY CRAZY................."

The boss of a big company needed to call one of his employees about an
urgent problem with one of the main computers, he dialed the employee's
home phone number and was greeted with a child's whisper..!!

"Hello."

"Is your daddy home?" he asked.

"Yes," whispered the small voice.

"May I talk with him?"

The child whispered, "No."

Surprised, and wanting to talk with an adult, the boss asked, is your Mommy there?"

"Yes."

"May I talk with her?"

Again the small voice whispered,

"No."

Hoping there was somebody with whom he could leave a message, the boss asked,

"Is anybody else there?"

"Yes," whispered the child, "a policeman."

Wondering what a cop would be doing at his employee's home, the boss asked,

"May I speak with the policeman?"

"No, he's busy", whispered the child.

"Busy doing what?"

"Talking to Daddy and Mommy and the Fireman", came the whispered answer.

Growing concerned and even worried as he heard what sounded like a helicopter through the earpiece on the phone the boss asked,

"What is that noise?"

"A hello-copper" answered the whispering voice.

"What is going on there?" asked the boss, now alarmed.

In an awed whispering voice the child answered,

"The search team just landed the hello-copper."

Alarmed, concerned, and even more then just a little frustrated the boss asked,

"What are they searching for?"

Still whispering, the young voice replied along with a muffled giggle:

The US India Political Action Committee (USINPAC), the most influential and effective lobby that the Indian-American community has on Capitol Hill, has scored a big hit on the issue of visa-processing delays for the B1 & B2 short-term categories.
Leaders of the organisation are also hopeful of recapturing an additional 30,000 H-1B visas in the skilled category, which would take the cap up to 95,000 from the present 65,000.
“The US embassy in Delhi and the consulates in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai have long waiting lists of up to three months. This hits Indian companies as well as MNCs who need to send staff members to the US.
After working with various members of the India Caucus in the US House and Senate through our business initiatives, we have been promised an additional US consulate in either Bangalore or Hyderabad by mid-2006.
Meanwhile, an emergency procedure for fast-track B1/B2 visas for companies in India has already been launched since October, 2005 on a case-to-case basis,” says Abhi Shah, a member of the executive committee of the US India Business Alliance under USINPAC and an MBA student at the Harvard Business School.
